What is a click speed test?
A click speed test measures how many times you can click your mouse in a fixed amount of time, then converts it to clicks per second (CPS). It is the simplest way to compare your clicking with friends or to track your own progress as you practise.
How is CPS calculated?
CPS is just total clicks divided by the number of seconds. If you click 48 times in a 6-second test, that is 8 CPS. Shorter tests reward a fast burst; longer tests reward consistency and stamina.
Average click speeds
- 4–6 CPS — casual, everyday mouse use.
- 7–10 CPS — regular gamers.
- 11–14 CPS — players using jitter or butterfly clicking.
- 14+ CPS — advanced techniques and drag-clicking.
Clicking techniques
Normal clicking uses one finger and is comfortable for long sessions. Jitter clicking tenses the forearm to vibrate the finger for higher CPS. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on one button. Drag clicking drags a finger across the button so friction registers many clicks at once. Faster techniques add strain, so warm up and keep sessions short.
Tips to click faster
- Rest your wrist and use small, controlled movements.
- Use a mouse with light, responsive switches.
- Practise short bursts rather than long marathons.
- Stop immediately if your hand or arm starts to hurt.
